We may free ourselves from the divine, but that will not secure us freedom. Liberation through the absence of values or generosity creates only an illusion of freedom. It is only through sensitivity to each other’s needs that freedom can be attained, when one has shed every trace of greed or desire. Death is inevitable. And while callous behaviour might lead to death, even this ultimate liberation (of the body) will not provide true freedom.
